Alec Baldwin answered questions from the press Saturday, the first time the actor has spoken publicly since the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Accompanied by his wife, Hilaria, Baldwin spoke to the press on the side of a road in Vermont. The two appeared to be agitated by the cameras as they tried to explain that Alec is not allowed to answer any questions regarding Hutchins’s death, according to a video published by TMZ.
“She was my friend,” Baldwin said in the video. “We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together, and then this horrible event happened.”

Hutchins was killed on Oct. 21 when a gun wielded by Baldwin on the set of the movie Rust fired live ammunition during filming. Hutchins was struck and killed by a bullet that had been loaded instead of a blank.
Baldwin said he has met with Hutchins’s husband and 9-year-old son since the accident. Baldwin and his wife are in constant contact with Hutchins’s husband, who “is in shock.”
When asked if he would ever work on any other film sets with firearms involved, Baldwin said he could not answer that question. While Baldwin said he is interested in a movement in limiting firearms on set, he said it is important to remember how many firearms have gone off in Hollywood history.
“So what has to happen now is we have to realize then when it does go wrong, and it’s this horrible catastrophic thing, some new measures have to take place,” Baldwin explained. “Rubber guns, plastic guns, no live or real operatives on set.”
Baldwin said he does not know when or even if production of his movie Rust will resume, saying “I doubt it.” He also declined to answer a question about any upcoming productions of his, saying the question was irrelevant.

The Santa Fe sheriff’s office revealed on Wednesday it had recovered 500 rounds from the film set, with some possibly live. An affidavit reported one of Rust’s assistant directors admitted he failed to account for all of the rounds ahead of the shooting.
