Fresh out of jail, Ben & Jerry still yearning for Bernie

The founders of the Vermont-based Ben & Jerry’s ice cream company, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, spent Monday evening at George Washington University GWU, lobbying students to support Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

Cohen and Greenfield, public advocates for the senator, first launched the ice cream flavor “Bernie’s Yearning” earlier in the year as a tribute to their 2016 White House pick, but have recently stepped up their support of the democratic socialist.

The two joined progressive groups earlier in the day to fight for campaign finance reform and against the negative implications of the Supreme Court’s decision on the Citizens United case, where they were arrested.

Fresh out of police custody, Cohen headed west to GWU, where they spouted out progressive talking points to attendees, which was sponsored by GWU College Democrats.

“We pay at least twice as much as other countries that have universal healthcare and we don’t get the results,” Cohen told the crowd.

Cohen railed against corporations during his remarks, telling the audience these large companies do not reflect the interests of the people.

But the duo did not hit on their 2000 decision to sell the company to corporate giant Unilever or its involvement in political lobbying.

Instead, the event ended in proper fashion with an ice cream social featuring the famous Sanders flavor.
