Michelle Rhee: ‘I will work with Democrats, Republicans, independents’

Former D.C. schools chancellor Michelle Rhee confirmed that she will advise Florida’s Republican Governor-elect Rick Scott as he prepares to take office, e-mailing The Washington Examiner a statement on Friday that bucked party lines:

“I am happy to be of service to Governor Elect Scott and the state of Florida. When it comes to improving our schools for our children, I will work with Democrats, Republicans, independents, and people who have general interest in making schools great for our children.”

Scott named Rhee to his 18-person Education Transition Team on Thursday, after Head of Transition Enu Mainihi reached out to her, a Scott spokesman told The Examiner. Rhee decided to take an unpaid advisory role, but has no immediate plans to go to Florida.

“I think she’s going to have a more overall 30,000 feet kind of advisory role, but other people on the team will be on fact-finding missions, taking a top-to-bottom approach,” spokesman Trey Stapleton said.
