A pair of Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan’s sneakers made history Sunday after they sold for roughly $1.47 million.
The red and white sneakers are from Jordan’s fifth game of his rookie season, played on Nov. 1, 1984, according to a report.
The shoes were sold to Nick Fiorella, a card collector, and set the world record for the highest price of sneakers sold at auction.

The shoes of the six-time National Basketball Association champion also became the first of their kind to sell for over $1 million, 7 News reported.
The “record-breaking result for the Jordan Nike Air Ships affirms the place of Michael Jordan and the Air Jordan franchise at the pinnacle of the sneaker market,” Brahm Wachter, head of Sotheby’s streetwear and modern collectibles, said in a statement.
Jordan received a signature shoe line from Nike in 1984 to convince the young phenom to sign with the brand. He signed a five-year deal that year and received $500,000 annually, according to the report.

Soon after, Nike launched the Air Jordan, and at the end of the first year of the partnership, Nike and Jordan had made roughly $126 million.
