SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — The head of a nonprofit animal rescue group is suing Orange County’s animal shelter, alleging that it euthanizes healthy animals too quickly.
The Voice of OC reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/1tzJtzZ) that the $2.5 million civil suit was filed late last month in Orange County Superior Court.
The suit against OC Animal Care by the founder of the Seal Beach-based nonprofit Paw Protectors Rescue also alleges the facility fails to give proper medical treatment to injured animals.
County spokeswoman Jean Pasco says the county has no comment.
Ryan Drabek, the facility’s director, tells The Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/1l1ekps ) that OC Animal Care has greatly reduced the number of animals it puts down.
Last year, 28 percent of animals were killed, down from 47 percent in 2010.
