Dominion Power will create a simulated — simulated! — hurricane on Thursday to test its ability to respond during a storm.
Dominion’s storm center will create a mock hurricane named “Jessica,” said spokeswoman Le-Ha Anderson.
The simulated storm would knock out power to more than 1.2 million customers throughout Virginia. During the exercise from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., personnel will testing technology and communications to prepare for severe weather events.
Anderson assured, though, that Dominion customers’ power will not actually be shut off during the drill.
“No,” she said. “No. Oh God, nobody would be able to tolerate that.”
