A recent audit of the Virginia Department of Transportation found over $800 million in unused funds, and Sen. Mark Herring, D-Fairfax-Loudoun, wants some of that money for Loudoun County.
Herring sent a letter to Virginia Transportation Secretary Sean Connaughton asking for funds for two projects along the Route 7 corridor.
The projects include construction of an interchange at Route 7 and Belmont Ridge Road in Ashburn and of a Sycolin Road overpass. The projects were highlighted as critical needs by the senator’s Route 7 task force.
“The completion of these two projects will make great strides toward the completion of Route 7 as a limited access highway and improve traffic flow on one of the region’s most critical transportation corridors,” Herring wrote.
