Rep. Tim Ryan, Ohio’s Democratic nominee for Senate, said the United States needs to “kill and confront” what he says is extremism in the Republican Party.
While admitting that Democrats “aren’t right on everything,” Ryan stated during an interview Tuesday on MSNBC that he is willing to talk with others on how the U.S. can move “out of this age of stupidity.”
“Some of those answers will come from Republicans, not the extremists that we’re dealing with every single day. We’ve got to kill and confront that movement. But, you know, working with normal, mainstream Republicans, I think that’s going to be really, really important,” Ryan said.

The Ohio Democrat’s comments come less than two weeks after President Joe Biden gave an address on Sept. 1 in which he claimed that former President Donald Trump and “MAGA Republicans” are a threat to the U.S. J.D. Vance, the GOP candidate for Senate in Ohio and Ryan’s opponent, was very critical of Biden’s speech, claiming the president broke his campaign promise of uniting the country.
A Suffolk University survey conducted with 500 Ohio voters over two days in early September found that if the election were held immediately instead of in November, 46.6% of respondents said they would lean toward or vote for Ryan, while 45.6% said the same for Vance.

On Thursday, Ryan attempted to distance himself from Biden, suggesting that the president should not seek reelection in 2024.
