If Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell is a potential vice presidential running mate for Mitt Romney this fall, he doesn’t know it yet.
McDonnell said Tuesday that Romney’s campaign has not asked him for any documents and isn’t vetting him for the vice presidential slot even though Romney’s campaign is said to be looking over potential candidates.
“I’m absolutely planning to finish my term as governor,” McDonnell said on WTOP’s Ask the Governor program.
Speculation as to whom Romney grew in recent weeks as prospective candidates continue to play coy about their interest in the job while clearly campaigning hard for it. McDonnell, who heads the Republican Governors Association and at times has been listed as a possible running mate, said he is committed to getting Republicans elected in gubernatorial races this November and will try to deliver a win for Romney in Virginia.
McDonnell made an appearance Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Rundown” before heading out to Racine, Wis., for a private event to support Gov. Scott Walker, who faces a recall election next Tuesday.
