Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., is set to make a stop in Iowa this weekend as speculation surrounding 2020 presidential hopefuls on the Democratic side intensifies.
Klobuchar, a two-term senator, is slated to make a stop in Marion on Sunday at an event billed as “A Discussion with Senator Klobuchar” at the Linn County Phoenix Club.
According to Politico, club members must pay a $50 fee to attend, while non-members must pay $100. The Minnesota Democrat is also set to attend a fundraiser in Des Moines.
This is one of the earliest Iowa stops by a high-profile Democrat since the 2016 election. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, who sought the Democratic nomination last year, has made multiple stops already. However, others have made stops in New Hampshire, including O’Malley and former Vice President Joe Biden.
Klobuchar is only the latest high-profile Democrat to be mentioned as a 2020 possibility. Most attention has swirled around Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., who passed on a 2016 run and endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton following the Democratic primary.
There has also been speculation about New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y.
Klobuchar is also up for re-election to her Senate seat in 2018.
