McDonald’s to start anti-harassment training for restaurants worldwide

McDonald’s is slated to require 2 million workers across 39,000 locations worldwide to go through training aimed at curbing workplace violence, discrimination, and harassment at restaurants.

Measures from the training policies will go into full effect in January 2022, a McDonald’s spokesperson told the Washington Examiner, adding that restaurants would begin evaluation over the training policies at that time.

The training procedures will be required across both company-operated locations and franchises, which make up roughly 93% of McDonald’s restaurants in the world.

In addition to the training requirements, McDonald’s is setting goals for the representation of women and underrepresented groups in leadership positions by 2025, a company spokesperson said.

McDonald’s made its announcement following the company receiving accusations of widespread sexual harassment at company locations, leading to worker protests in several cities across the United States in 2018.

A lawsuit alleging that the company perpetuated “severe or pervasive sexual harassment and a hostile work environment” at its Florida locations was filed in April 2020.
