Commuting mess on Orange, Blue lines after man hit by train

Service on Metro’s Orange and Blue lines in Arlington was stopped at the height of evening rush hour Tuesday after a man was hit by a train at the Clarendon station, causing major delays for riders. The man was taken to a local hospital after being rescued from under the first rail car.

Video footage shows the man apparently got into the train’s path intentionally, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said, but authorities were still investigating whether it was a suicide attempt.

For riders, the incident meant major delays. Rescuers needed access to both tracks to reach the man, Stessel said, so all train service was suspended between the Rosslyn and Ballston stations. – Kytja Weir
