A tale of two VPs: Pence visits Ukrainian refugees after Harris’s awkward podium moment

Former Vice President Mike Pence visited with refugees flooding through Poland’s border Thursday while current Vice President Kamala Harris laughed when asked about fleeing Ukrainians in the wake of the Russian invasion.

Pence was joined by former second lady Karen Pence and officials from the Christian humanitarian organization Samaritan’s Purse, according to a report.

@KarenPence and I visited the Ukraine border today with @EdwardG1911 and @SamaritansPurse to meet with Ukrainian women and children seeking refuge from war. 2.4 million refugees have already fled Ukraine and nearly 400,000 have already come through the Korczowa border crossing,” the former vice president posted to Twitter.

Pence said the impact of the Russian attack on Ukraine is “heartbreaking.”

“We encourage everyone to pray and contribute to @SamaritansPurse and other relief organizations today. Let’s stand together as one with the people of Ukraine,” he tweeted.

While Pence was on the border, Harris met with Polish President Andrzej Duda in Warsaw.

When asked if the United States had any plan to construct lasting infrastructure for refugees or if it was willing to accept more Ukrainians fleeing Russian forces, Harris responded with an awkward laugh.

“A friend in need is a friend indeed,” Harris said.

Pence has strongly condemned the Russian invasion and actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the report noted.

There is no room in the Republican Party for “apologists for Putin,” he said last week while speaking to donors of the Republican National Committee.

Pence also recently initiated an ad buy worth roughly $10 million that implores Democratic lawmakers to back the production of U.S. energy over reliance on Russian oil, the report noted.
