Ron Wyden, Maxine Waters to speak at Tax March calling for Trump’s tax returns

The top Democratic tax writer in the Senate and the House’s most outspoken critic of President Trump are slated to speak at this weekend’s Tax March in Washington, an event meant to pressure Trump to release his tax returns.

Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, will speak in front of the Capitol. So too will Rep. Maxine Waters, the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee who has sought Trump’s impeachment.

Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland also will speak at the event, his office confirmed, joining a roster of liberal speakers.

The march, which organizers expect will draw a crowd of tens of thousands, will proceed from the Capitol, past Trump International Hotel, and pass in front of the White House to the Washington Monument.

It is scheduled for April 15, the traditional day on which taxes are due, to reflect that Trump has not released his tax returns. Tax Day this year is April 18.

In recent weeks, congressional Democrats have attempted a series of procedural measures meant to force Trump to release his tax returns. Those have been blocked by Republicans, who have warned that it would be an abusive precedent to set.

Among lawmakers, Waters has been out in front suggesting that Trump might be impeached.

In March, the California lawmaker issued a tweet reading, simply, “Get ready for impeachment.” Since then, she has called for aggressive investigation into Trump’s ties to Russians in the hopes of finding an impeachable offense.
