Sarah Palin lashed out at former President Barack Obama after he accused her of shepherding in the rise of the “anti-intellectual” Republican Party in his book A Promised Land.
She rejected Obama’s accusations that her moment as vice presidential nominee of the Republican Party in 2008 was the tipping point that led the GOP into the modern era with President Trump at the helm of the political party.
“He is a purveyor of untruths,” Palin told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday night. “There are so many untruths that Barack Obama is leading people toward still.”
Palin suggested that Obama was against “the sanctity of life” and law and order before saying, “He just doesn’t get it.”
In A Promised Land released on Tuesday, the former president said the GOP was overcome by “dark spirits” during his tenure in the Oval Office. Obama claimed Republicans cast racism and nativism at the forefront of the lens through which they view political reality and that Palin’s ascendancy was instrumental in this process.
“Through Palin, it seemed as if the dark spirits that had long been lurking on the edges of the modern Republican Party — xenophobia, anti intellectualism, paranoid conspiracy theories, an antipathy toward Black and brown folks — were finding their way to center stage,” Obama wrote.
But Palin pushed back on those claims, saying, Obama “doesn’t represent truth” before mocking his book saying, “Evidently, he thinks he is going to lead us to the promised land, so let’s refer to him as Moses.”
“Moses is the master of the politics of personal destruction, which people were so fed up with that a movement began, and they elected someone to hopefully get us on a path to get rid of that politics of personal destruction, but Barack Obama, he just doesn’t get it,” Palin continued.
Palin accused the “lamestream media” of not doing enough to defend herself and others in the Republican Party, such as Trump, before claiming that “the Left” was “after” conservatives.
“I think that the media, the lamestream media, has been pretty successful in trying to make this whole issue an issue of attacks on Donald Trump and his personality, or his tone, or his mannerisms … But really, America has to remember that the Left led by Barack Obama, and … Hillary Clinton, and Biden — they’re after us.”
