Trump tells Clinton to give Weiner back his $550

Donald Trump’s team attacked rival Hillary Clinton Thursday for accepting $550 in donations from disgraced ex-congressman Anthony Weiner after reports a day earlier that he was sexually involved with a minor.

“The Clinton campaign should immediately return all campaign contributions from Weiner. America has had enough of the sleaze that is Clinton, Inc.,” Jessica Ditto, Trump’s deputy communications director, said in a statement Thursday evening.

But Ditto, in her first week working for the Republican nominee, did not note the billionaire businessman’s connections to Weiner, the husband of Clinton’s top aide Huma Abedin. She announced in August, following the second-most-recent scandal, that she and their child were leaving Weiner.

Trump has donated $4,750 to Weiner through the years. In 2007 and 2010, he donated the maximum amount of $2,300 to his congressional races, as well as $150 for a city council race in 1997. Trump’s support of Weiner took place prior to the public’s learning about multiple sexting scandals the Democrat has been involved in since 2011.

In that time, the 51-year-old failed New York City mayoral candidate’s sexting messages and photos have been released to the public on three occasions when he was caught corresponding with women he had met online. This week’s instance is the first time he has allegedly sexted with a minor.

The Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office issued a subpoena for former New York congressman Anthony Weiner’s cell phone and other records on Thursday.

New York’s U.S. Attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose said officials, including the FBI and Manhattan Special Victims Squad, are also “reviewing all material relevant to the matter.”

Weiner claimed Wednesday he is the victim of a hoax following the Daily Mail’s story that he sexted with a minor.
