Disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein is sick in prison and being “closely monitored” while he awaits the results of a COVID-19 test, according to his representatives.
Weinstein’s publicist Juda Englemeyer and authorized New York Department of Corrections representative Craig Rothfeld announced in a statement on Tuesday that Weinstein had received medical attention after becoming ill.
“We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein has a fever and is being closely monitored by the excellent medical staff [at the Wende Correctional Facility] for which the entire legal defense team is grateful,” Englemeyer and Rothfeld said in a statement.
Weinstein, who is 68 and entered prison after being found guilty of rape in the third degree and criminal sexual acts in the first degree, is serving a 23-year sentence after spending his life producing blockbuster movies.
Weinstein has a number of health issues, including heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, and a spine condition.
“As information becomes available that we are at liberty to discuss we will update everyone accordingly,” added Weinstein’s representatives.
