Sekou Biddle was named “Education Reformer of the Month” by Democrats for Education Reform.
He’s held hearings on school truancy and backed free public transportation for D.C. kids commuting to and from school already this month, and it’s only March 23. Perhaps next he will give Kaya Henderson a foot rub.
“The newest member of the D.C. Council, Sekou has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to providing an excellent education for every child,” reads a statement from the Dems. “Sekou will help to ensure that the D.C. Public School system stays under mayoral control and thrives under the progressive leadership of Chancellor Kaya Henderson.”
Biddle is the at-large member of the D.C. City Council (running for re-election) and the chairman of the school safety and truancy committee.
His 18 years in urban education reform include eight years as a classroom teacher. He has previously been the executive director for Jumpstart for Young Children, director of community outreach for Kipp Charter Schools, and a program director for Teach for America.
