‘He is innocent!’: Doug Collins blasts Democrats in impeachment closing remarks

With the House of Representatives moments away from casting votes on the impeachment of President Trump, Rep. Doug Collins slammed Democrats for conducting the impeachment process under “mob rule.”

Collins said that a “dark cloud” has fallen over the Capitol as Democrats move to impeach a president for only the third time in history.

“Right now, the dark cloud is descending upon this house,” said the Georgia Republican. “And I am fearful, Madam Speaker, when I look out in that abyss, I don’t know what I see, but I will tell you what I do see: I see coming off a president put his head down through this sham impeachment, and he will do his job. He will put the American people first.”

Collins claimed that Democrats were “trashing the institution” and that Republicans would seek reprisal when the next Democratic president is elected. “I guarantee you one day you will be back in the minority, and it ain’t going to be that fun,” Collins said.

During the Judiciary Committee’s hearings on impeachment, Collins was one of Trump’s staunchest defenders, claiming House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler’s integrity was “zero” and supported Trump’s lack of participation in what he considered a “sham” impeachment process.

In his closing remarks, Collins ripped the process. “Today, from this floor, we have heard the majority leader say this president is guilty and not the other way around. He is innocent!”
