“Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough claimed on Friday to have records of conversations he had with President Trump and his aides to prove the Trump administration used the National Enquirer as a threat.
However, there are no plans at MSNBC to release any of these alleged texts or phone conversation records, an MSNBC source told the Washington Examiner.
In a Washington Post op-ed Friday, Scarborough and fellow “Morning Joe” co-anchor Mika Brzezinski said the Trump White House had threatened them with a negative National Enquirer story that they said would only be pulled if they asked Trump for help. A spokesman for the parent company of the tabloid later denied having any involvement in pressuring the MSNBC hosts to reach out to Trump.
Still, after the pair elaborated on the plot during their Friday show, Trump replied with a tweet, saying, “Watched low rated @Morning_Joe for first time in long time. FAKE NEWS. He called me to stop a National Enquirer article. I said no! Bad show.”
Scarborough fired back, saying, “Yet another lie. I have texts from your top aides and phone records. Also, those records show I haven’t spoken with you in many months,” Scarborough wrote.
Scarborough and Brzezinski on Friday had been responding to Trump’s tweets a day earlier in which he insulted both of them. In particular, Trump received widespread condemnation for claiming that he saw Brzezinski at the Mar-a-Lago around New Year’s Eve, and that she was “bleeding badly from a face-lift.”
