Tech billionaire Elon Musk unveiled his new Tesla Cybertruck, which he claims performs better than a Porsche 911 and can haul more than a Ford F-150.
The presentation did not go quite as planned when Musk had a man come out with a sledgehammer to demonstrate the car’s “bulletproof” windows. The man hit the body of the car with the sledgehammer before throwing a metal ball at the windows.
“Oh my f—ing God!” Musk said as the windows broke. “Well, maybe that was a little too hard.” The Tesla CEO did point out that, “It didn’t go through.”
The model, which will start at $39,900, has a futuristic look, and buyers can drop another $7,000 for a “self-driving” version of the truck.
The truck will be the company’s sixth vehicle and looks to take on Ford in the truck market directly. Some are skeptical about the truck’s potential.
“Tesla’s Cybertruck looks weird … like, really weird. Musk had warned investors that Tesla’s pickup would be ‘really futuristic, like cyberpunk Blade Runner,’ and he wasn’t kidding,” Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi said. “Mad Musk, Fury Road.”
SpaceX, another company, owned by Musk, experienced technical difficulties Wednesday, when the prototype of its first Starship rocket exploded.
