Blame media for our coming loss of freedom

Re: “Yikes! The tale of the runaway Prius,” Editorial, March 15

Fact checking is only part of our press problem. Far worse is the press’ refusal to discuss 34 straight years of trade deficits which now total $9.5 trillion and are increasing at $800 million a year. They have wrecked the prosperity of our middle class, caused massive unemployment by exporting jobs, plants and capital investment, undermined our national security, and have now created a stampede toward socialism.
Nor does the press spend much time on the trillion-dollar deficit in state pension funds, the looming bankruptcy of Social Security and Medicare, the runaway cost of health care and the failure of either party to attempt to stem it, and the runaway use of the printing press by Ben Bernanke, Timothy Geithner and their friends in the White House.
The refusal of the media to deal with these issues comprehensively enabled the socialist movement to gain speed. The result will be the end of democracy in America and a socialist dictatorship.
That is our biggest problem. Ironically, it is the one the press covers least. Example: On health care, they don’t talk about the cost explosion, confining themselves to worries about the loss of health care freedom even as this misplaced focus helps the socialist drive to take away all of our freedom.

Anarchists are the same as Tea Partiers

Re: “Detective in snowball fight gets slammed by MPD,” March 12

It was troubling for me to learn that one justification for Detective Michael Baylor drawing his service gun during a snowball fight on December 19 was that he thought some of the participants were “anarchists,” including some wearing black masks and waving a black flag.
As most educated people know, anarchists hold the political belief that there should be no government. However, their belief no more justifies bringing a gun to a snowball fight than pulling a gun on
Tea Party demonstrators, who ironically also want virtually no federal government (states rights are just fine) and have actually brought guns to political rallies.
While the media has routinely portrayed all anarchists as violent, the great majority are not. In any event, how about some probable cause before threatening citizens the police are expected to protect with deadly force? How about someone standing up for free speech?
The only practical difference between anarchists and Tea Party members is the flag they wave.

Student loans just another left-wing power grab

Radical left-wing Democrat’s quest to gain power has no end. In their push for Obamacare, they now wish to nationalize and control the student loan program, too.
This has nothing to do with improving the student loan program, just like Obamacare has nothing to do with healthcare. This is all about government gaining control over our daily lives.
It’s time voters put a stop to this continued radical socialization of our country and vote these left-wing Democrats out of office in November. We do not want to become a Banana Republic and have our Constitution destroyed along with our country.
