A left-wing activist said Thursday that “Make America Great Again” supporters want to “lynch or murder” the black population.
Missouri-based activist Brittany Packnett Cunningham made the comment while discussing controversial self-defense legislation in her home state on MSNBC’s The ReidOut.
“[Law enforcement agencies] may use standard procedures for investigating the use or threatened use of force, but the agency may not arrest the person for using or threatening to use force unless the agency determines that there is probable cause that the force that was used or threatened was unlawful,” the bill reads.

Opponents to the legislation have labeled S.B. 666 as the “Make Murder Legal Act” and argue the legislation would make it difficult to prosecute individuals who exercise deadly force, according to a report.
During the discussion, host Joy Reid brought up the case of Mark and Patricia McCloskey.
The pair rose to prominence after they pointed guns at Black Lives Matter protesters who positioned themselves outside their home in 2020, the report noted.
Cunningham alleged individuals like the McCloskeys see “black skin is weapon enough.”
S.B. 666 is being pushed to “legitimize seeing blackness as a weapon” and “justify” the killing of black people, she said.
“I also want to set the proper historical context, because back in the day, by 1950, Missouri had the second-highest number of lynchings outside of the deep South,” according to Cunningham.
“So when folks talk about ‘making America great again,’ that’s the kind of Missouri grand ol’ tradition that they want to return to. They want to return to days when you could lynch or murder black folks and there would be absolutely no retribution for it. That’s not hyperbole. I’m telling you as a black Missourian and as a protester, that is reality.”
Reid nodded in agreement.

“This is fugitive slave act territory,” she said. “This is essentially legalizing lynching.”
