Part of George Washington’s estate — seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms — sells for $48 million

I cannot sell a lie — $48 million just bought someone a piece of history.

Some of former President George Washington’s property sold for $48 million on Oct. 29 after it originally listed at $60 million in September 2020. It boasts seven bedrooms and 13 bathrooms.

The mansion, not to be confused with the Mount Vernon museum and grounds, is called River View Estate. It sits on 16 acres overlooking the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia.

It’s reportedly the largest residential sale in the history of the greater Washington, D.C., area.

If the giant house isn’t enough space, there’s also a three-bedroom, three-bathroom guest house on the property.

Washington originally purchased the home and land in 1760, and it stayed in his family until 1859, according to the New York Post. The last owner was reportedly Robert Stevens, CEO of Lockheed Martin. The new owner’s identity has not been disclosed.
