House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi denied on Thursday that her personal computer was breached by a hacker, but did call it an “attempt by Russia” to influence the election.
The statement came after a self-proclaimed hacker known as Guccifer 2.0 leaked files that he claimed to have obtained from a personal computer held by the Democratic leader. They were the latest in a string of files purportedly exfiltrated in a breach of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
“This attempt by Russia to influence our election has no place in our democracy,” Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said in a statement. “In addition, Leader Pelosi does not have a personal computer at the DCCC so no hacked, dumped or doctored documents can be attributed to her computer.”

The files included talking points for staffers to share with candidates on topics that included Black Lives Matter, immigration, and Hillary Clinton’s role at the State Department during the 2012 terrorist attacks in Libya.
The Obama administration has yet to blame Russia for the breach of the DCCC, and the American intelligence community has been mum. Pelosi has had fewer apprehensions, saying at an August press conference that she could definitively blame Russia.
“I think that we want to learn more, I would’ve liked us to have been able to fully capture the hackers before it became public knowledge that they were hacking, but nonetheless, I think it’s very clear. I know for sure it is the Russians,” she said.
