Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley says she will not run for president in 2024 if her former boss decides to enter the race.
Haley announced on Monday that she would support former President Donald Trump in the event that he runs for reelection after losing to President Joe Biden in 2020.
“I would not run if President Trump ran,” Haley told reporters at a press conference in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
“And I would talk to him about it,” Haley added. “You know, that’s something that we will have a conversation about at some point if that decision is something that has to be made.”
LIST: TRUMP ENDORSEMENTS FOR 2022 PRIMARIES
Haley, who in 2017 left her post as governor of South Carolina to become ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, is seen as a possible contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination and made headlines on several occasions, toggling back and forth between praise and criticism of Trump.
“I had a great working relationship with him,” she said Monday. “I appreciated the way he let me do my job.”
I asked @NikkiHaley if she would support Donald Trump if he runs again in 2024.
“Yes,” she told me.
“I would not run if President Trump ran, and I would talk to him about it,” she added. “That’s something that we will have a conversation about, at some point.”

On other occasions, she has criticized Trump over his post-2020 election behavior, saying on the day after the Jan. 6 riot that “his actions since Election Day will be judged harshly by history.”
“We need to acknowledge he let us down,” Haley also said in a Politico interview published in February. “He went down a path he shouldn’t have. And we shouldn’t have followed him. And we shouldn’t have listened to him. And we can’t let that ever happen again.”
In a subsequent op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, Haley attempted a balance between criticizing Trump’s 2020 complaints, which includes claims of election fraud, and touting his accomplishments.
“Most of Mr. Trump’s major policies were outstanding and made America stronger, safer and more prosperous,” she wrote. “Many of his actions since the election were wrong and will be judged harshly by history. That’s not a contradiction. It’s common sense.”
Although Haley has said before that she doesn’t expect Trump to run again, it’s not a guarantee that Trump would welcome her endorsement if he does. She said on Monday that the last time she spoke with Trump was after the 2020 election but before the Jan. 6 riot. Trump reportedly denied her a meeting in February following her numerous criticisms of him.

Trump has not announced whether he will run in 2024, saying in March that “we have to see what we can do with the House,” referring to the 2022 midterm elections.
