Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence’s plane skidded off the runway Thursday evening while making a landing at LaGuardia Airport in New York City following events in Nebraska and Iowa.
No one was injured in the incident, reported Pence press pool reporter Elizabeth Landers of CNN.

Emergency crews were soon on the scene.
Pence went to the back of the place after the rough landing to check on the reporters. He told them that there was mud on the front window of the cockpit, according to press pool reports. There was rain in the area when the place came in for a landing around 8 p.m. local time.

According to Pence’s press secretary, the Indiana governor’s fundraiser Thursday evening has been canceled. But according to Pence on Twitter, he will be returning to the campaign trail on Friday.

The Boeing 737 with 37 people onboard made a rough impact when it landed, the Associated Press reported. After the pilot slammed the brake, travelers reported they could smell burning rubber.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it would investigate the incident, CNN reported.
Donald Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway tweeted that the plane skidded off the runway and into the mud. She too said there were no injuries. A Trump campaign spokesman told ABC News that Trump reached out to Pence soon after the incident and “is very glad” that everyone on board is safe.

Photos and video posted to social media show Pence and the other passengers exiting the plane through a back-end exit.
LaGuardia Airport is closed until further notice due to the skidding incident, according to the New York City Emergency Management Twitter account.
The landing did cause damage to the tarmac, according to a tweet from Landers, showing a picture of torn up concrete.

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton tweeted Thursday evening that she was “glad” that Pence, his staff and the crew all made it unscathed.
