A small-town Alaska mayor and her mother are fatal victims of an errant tour bus on the Washington, D.C. street where the White House is located.
Skagway Mayor Monica Adams Carlson, 61, and her mother, Cora Louise Adams, 85, were walking on Pennsylvania Avenue, just north of the National Mall, Wednesday night when they were struck and killed by the tour bus.
Police told the Washington Post a preliminary investigation shows the two women were in the crosswalk at about 9:30 p.m., and had the light as they attempted to cross Pennsylvania Avenue.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the bus, which had no passengers at the time of the collision.
The mother-daughter pair were in Washington visiting tourist attractions and had just looked at the White House Christmas decorations.
Skagway, with a population of less than 1,200 people, is located about 110 miles north of Alaska’s state capital Juneau, near the Canadian border.
