Fairfax County bridges, roads still closed

Last week’s rain was still causing problems on Monday, with three Fairfax County bridges and six roads closed Monday because of flooding. State transportation officials spent the weekend assessing more than 200 bridges in the wake of the deluge from remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. They estimate that it could cost $10 million to make repairs.

“We could even see more pavement and slope failures in the coming days, in addition to potholes,” said Garrett Moore, Northern Virginia district administrator for the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The bridges — Lorton Road over Giles Run, Beach Mill Road over Nichols Branch, and Towlston Road in McLean — were all slated to be replaced before the storm hit, but now crews will put up temporary structures until permanent replacements can be built.

The following roads were also closed:

» Sunrise Valley Drive eastbound between Glade Drive and Mercator Drive

» Hillside Road (both directions) between Moverly Court and Cameo Square

» Essex Avenue (both directions) at Middlesex Avenue

» Miller Road (both directions) at Westhurst Lane

» Hunter Mill Road (both directions) between Crowell Road and Chamberlain Drive

» Walker Road (both directions) between Colvin Run Road and Walker Mill Road
