It appears that the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report Thursday went better than President Trump and his lawyers expected.
A counter report to rebut parts of Mueller’s report has been in the works for months now, but Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani said Thursday that he was going to hold off on releasing it.
“Right now, we kind of like the way the discussion is going,” Giuliani said on CNN Thursday night.
Mueller’s report was released Thursday morning and showed that Trump did not conspire with Russia during the 2016 presidential election, and although it made no determination on whether he obstructed justice, Trump is calling it a total exoneration.
Giuliani said that the counter report is pretty much ready to go but noted that there is already so much information floating around from the Mueller report that Trump and his team will likely hold off on releasing it for a while.
“It’s basically done, and the question is when do we put it out? You’re flooded with so much material and frankly right now the discussion seems to be pretty clear,” Giuliani said. “We’ll put it out. We’ll put it out maybe — probably not until after the weekend.”
Giuliani said the counter report is comprised of two sections and will probably be about 45 pages long.
While on CNN Giuliani also expressed vindication from Mueller’s findings and, despite there not being a determination on obstruction, said he thought Trump is in the clear.
“He didn’t commit a crime. I believe he didn’t do anything wrong.”
“The whole issue of collusion with the Russians, both for him, his campaign, anyone in his campaign, even collusion with releasing the information or conspiracy or cooperation, is completely untrue,” Giuliani emphasized.
Last month Attorney General William Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein cleared Trump of both collusion and obstruction claims in a four-page letter released to Congress.
