First lady cookie showdown continues

Family Circle magazine’s quadrennial cookie contest strikes again. Michelle Obama and Ann Romney have both submitted recipes for the Presidential Cookie Bake-Off — the first lady picked white and dark chocolate chip cookies, and Romney went with an M&M-packed treat — even though we’re pretty sure neither of these women has a lot of time in her schedule for baking.

Hopelessly old-fashioned? Perhaps, but Family Circle says the contest is for the candidate’s spouse, regardless of gender. “Yes, if there were a female candidate, we would ask her spouse for a favorite recipe,” a spokesperson told Yeas & Nays. “In fact, in the last cycle, because the race was still ongoing, we approached former President Clinton for his favorite recipe.”

It was oatmeal cookie.
