President-elect Trump said he doesn’t care about the popular vote total because the Electoral College doesn’t require him to win it to be president and, if it did, he would have campaigned harder in larger states.
“If the election were based on total popular vote I would have campaigned in N.Y. Florida and California and won even bigger and more easily,” Trump tweeted.
The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!

As votes continue to be counted, it appears Trump will lose the total popular vote to Hillary Clinton by multiple percentage points.
Trump, who famously declared the Electoral College is a “disaster for democracy” in the wake of President Obama’s 2012 re-election, seemingly changed his mind.
“The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play,” Trump tweeted. “Campaigning is much different!”
