Black activists will descend on Iowa this weekend to campaign for Elizabeth Warren.
The final push for Warren, one month out from when Democrats in the state will decide who they want to be their party’s 2020 presidential nominee, is being organized by Black Womxn For, with two events scheduled in Des Moines and Waterloo on Saturday.

Black Womxn For is a collective of black women and transgender leaders who endorsed the senator for Massachusetts, 70, last November. The activists flying into Iowa include seven members of the group’s steering committee. Skipping the trip, however, is Anoa Changa. The Washington Examiner reported this month on Changa’s ties to Russia propaganda network Sputnik.
Black Womxn For’s visit to Iowa, a state where African Americans make up 3.8% of the population, launches the group’s Weekends of Actions. Organizers will host more than 35 events for Warren in the coming weeks.
Warren has struggled to gain traction with black Democrats in more diverse early voting states such as South Carolina.
A national poll released last December by the BlackPAC political action committee found the senator only earning 11% of the vote among the important demographic. That figure put her well behind former Vice President Joe Biden’s 38%. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders registered 15% support. Normington Petts, the firm that conducted the research, surveyed 800 black registered voters online between Nov. 21 and Nov. 27. Their findings have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
