‘He suffered from premature evaluation’: The View mocks O’Rourke’s presidential downfall

The View cohost Joy Behar claimed 2020 Democratic presidential dropout Beto O’Rourke may have had a “premature evaluation” after raking in millions only to end his campaign before the Iowa caucuses.

O’Rourke announced his exit on Friday from the Democratic primary, saying he would no longer be seeking the presidency. This move surprised some, given that O’Rourke had one of the strongest entries into the race by raising $6.1 million in the first 24 hours of his campaign.

Behar mocked O’Rourke’s sudden rise and fall on Monday’s episode of The View.

“I think he suffered from premature evaluation,” Behar said. “When he starts early, and then you get to know them, and he can’t really step up to the plate as much as the anticipation.”

She continued, “He’s kind of young and a little bit callow still, and he made mistakes, and better that he would have snuck up the way Obama did, I think.”

Cohost Meghan McCain claimed O’Rourke sunk his campaign by vowing to confiscate AR-15s and revoke the nonprofit status from religious institutions that did not support gay marriage.

Behar agreed, joking, “They should not tell everything they’re gonna do. Like, if you’re gonna take people’s guns away, wait until you get elected. Then take the guns away.”

“Don’t tell them ahead of time,” she added.

McCain responded, saying, “That’s what people like me think you’re going to do.”

Seventeen other Democrats outlasted O’Rourke in the primary.
