SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah state agency that regulates drilling and mining has received an award for promoting science in public schools.
The 25-state Interstate Mining Compact Commission awarded the Division of Oil, Gas & Mining for a program called “Utah Geology for Utah Kids – Science That Rocks!”
The agency says it helps provide hands-on science for 4th graders with a guidebook for teachers, a 130-page lab book for students and a science kit that contains mineral specimens.
Division Director John Baza says the program is in its first full year.
