Donald Trump is only worth $4.5 billion, less than half of the $10 billion that Trump claimed this week, according to Forbes Media CEO Steve Forbes.
“We came out with the number $4.5 billion. And to most people, $4.5, $10, $20, what’s the difference?” Forbes said of Trump’s earnings while speaking on CNN Wednesday morning.
“The big difference is how you value his brand,” Forbes explained when asked how his company arrived at the lower figure. “We take the position with him and anyone else that … your name may have value, but the key thing is how do you monetize it? When you monetize it, we count it. Oprah, same thing, her name has a real brand value but until you monetize it, we don’t count it.”
In the financial disclosure form the campaign released on Tuesday, Trump said he had a net worth of $10 billion and made $557 million in 2015. Trump still refuses to release his tax returns.
