Kamala Harris lists $1.995 million Washington home

Vice President Kamala Harris has put her former Washington, D.C., home on the market — and stands to rake in millions once it sells.

A listing for the roughly 1,700-square-foot property, a two-bedroom condo at the Westlight complex in the West End, details a “quiet sanctuary in the heart of the city” with design features that include oak floors, a chef’s kitchen, custom Italian cabinetry, and “spa-inspired bathrooms.”

Priced at $1.995 million, Harris’s Washington property has a COVID-conscious air filtration system that does not use recirculated air and instead “delivers fresh air into each unit directly from the outdoors,” according to the listing. Residents can also access a heated 25-meter rooftop pool.

Mei-Mei Watts-Venners, director of sales of the Westlight, told the Washington Examiner that the apartment is generating interest but that the building typically generates strong interest from buyers.

“We’ve got showings. We’re scheduling private appointments,” Venners said. “We’re not taking in people just to take photos.

Venners declined to say how quickly she thought the apartment might sell. “That would be like me predicting the future,” she added.

Designed by Mexico City architect Enrique Norten, the building features a cantilevered glass facade and was recently featured in the Wall Street Journal, which the listing notes, writing that “there is a reason why D.C.’s power players call the Westlight home.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, the building draws “athletes, real-estate types and foreign families.” A local agent who had sold units in the property said some used the building as a “high-end dorm for their well-heeled children” attending nearby George Washington University.

Records show that Harris paid approximately $1.775 million for the apartment in 2017.

This is the second property Harris has listed since taking office in January. She sold a San Francisco home in March for $860,000, nearly double what she paid for it in 2004, $489,000. Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff own a home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles.

Harris has lived at Blair House since the inauguration, while the U.S. Naval Observatory, the vice president’s traditional home, undergoes renovations.
