Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said a recent appearance on Fox News was her way of helping older people get accurate information about the coronavirus.
“I usually don’t (/never) go on Fox News bc they are wilin, but there has been a lot of Coronavirus disinformaation on the network and I’m seriously concerned about people getting hurt,” the New York Democrat said on her Instagram page Saturday. “So I decided to go on FOX to share public health information & make the case for single payer healthcare, paid sick leave, & more.”
“It was weird! But this is an emergency. Bad information can be life threatening so I wanted to set the record straight with their audience which skews older (an at-risk pop),” she added.
The freshman congresswoman has previously refused to appear on Fox News because she claims the network “bankrolls a white supremacist sympathizer.” The comment was a shot at host Tucker Carlson, whom Ocasio-Cortez has criticized for his views on immigration.
During her appearance on the network Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez encouraged compromise when it came to passing a coronavirus stimulus package.
“One thing that we need to do is put politics aside, and that’s exactly why Democrats have agreed with President Trump on his goals of paid sick leave and his goals of free coronavirus testing,” she said. “All of those things have been included in our package. We bump it up a little bit more, but when you have a Democratic House and Republican Senate, compromise is the name of the game.”
