A top House Democrat believes Russia is laughing at the United States, but not for the same reason President Trump tweeted Tuesday.
Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on House Intelligence Committee, hit back at Trump for claiming Russian officials are laughing at the coverage of potential collusion between them and Trump’s campaign.
“They were certainly laughing in the Oval Office, but that had more to do with your conduct than anything else. And who can blame them?” the California Democrat tweeted.

Schiff has also expressed concerns over reports Trump’s son-in-law and top adviser, Jared Kushner, proposed a backchannel with Russian officials. He is pushing for Kushner to testify before his committee over his talks with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak before Trump took office.
He is also calling for a review of Kushner’s security clearance in light of the report.
