Trump: ‘Leave Tom Brady alone’

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump came out once again to defend New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady after his four-game suspension was reinstated by the U.S. Court of Appeals Monday.

Trump opened his rally in Rhode Island Monday by calling for everyone to “leave Tom Brady alone.” The real estate mogul’s plea came after the court ruled Monday that Brady must serve the suspension for his role in the “Deflategate” saga stemming from the 2014 season AFC Championship.

“First of all, let’s start by saying leave Tom Brady alone!” Trump said to raucous applause. “Leave him alone!”

“Leave him alone — he’s a great guy,” Trump said. “It’s enough.”

Trump and Brady have referred to each other as “friends” in the past, with Brady even keeping a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker at one point last season.

The GOP front-runner was making a stop in Warwick, R.I., ahead of the state’s primary on Tuesday, where five states are set to cast ballots in the GOP nominating contest.
