President Obama called French President Francois Hollande Friday to offer support and condolences following the terror attack in Nice, France.
“France after all is our oldest ally so it should be no surprise that President Obama didn’t just offer condolences, he offered significant security cooperation and any assistance they need to conduct their investigation and try to prevent something like this from ever happening again,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Friday.
A range of White House officials and U.S. law enforcement and intelligence officials have been in touch with their French counterparts since a truck slammed into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, killing at least 84 people and injuring nearly 200 more, he said.
While French and U.S. authorities are in the early stages of their investigation into the attack, Earnest said the U.S. will use all of its intelligence capabilities to assist the French in the investigation.
