Three dead in Florida domestic shooting

Three people died and another man was wounded in a shooting that turned into a brief standoff at a house just southwest of Miami, Florida, according to authorities.

Miami-Dade police responded to emergency calls at around 5 p.m. Sunday after a man ran to a neighbor’s house, claiming his son shot him, according to a readout from the department.

Two children managed to escape the home safely, according to a local NBC News affiliate 6 South Florida.

A SWAT team and hostage negotiator arrived at the home and tried to make contact with the shooter. Before the team could contact the shooter, another gunshot was heard. Officers forced their way inside and found the bodies of two women and a man, who is believed to be the gunman, according to authorities.

The father of the gunman was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

The names of the deceased gunman and victims have not been released, though police said the incident was a domestic shooting.

“We’re not discarding the possibility that it was over a dispute. However, we’re not ruling out the possibility that it could have been something else. So detectives now have the undaunting task of figuring out piece by piece what took place at this residence,” Detective Angel Rodriguez told NBC 6 South Florida.

Rodriguez did not offer more information about the situation, saying the investigation is ongoing.
