The Daily Outrage: NIH spends nearly $1 million to study quack medicine

WHO: National Institutes of Health WHAT: NIH’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine spent $374,000 in taxpayers’ money to conclude that the inhalation of lemon and lavender does not help the body heal wounds, the Chicago Tribune reported. They also spent $666,000 for a study that determined that “distant prayer” cannot heal AIDS.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: At least they didn’t spend $104,000 to find out that “energy healing” is a crock. Oh, wait — they did.
