South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem reiterated her support for limited government during the week of the Republican National Convention.
“America is unique in the world. Government’s power is limited to the confines of our Constitution, which protects our God-given liberties and civil rights,” Noem, a Republican, tweeted Tuesday morning. “We are not — and WILL not — be the subjects of an elite class of so-called experts. We the People are the government.”

Noem is slated to speak in support of Trump at the Republican convention on Wednesday evening.
“She’s going to talk about the principles of the American founding, … how they’ve been challenged in the past and how they’re being challenged today,” spokesman Ian Fury said. “The conclusion is we need to reelect President Trump to preserve and protect those principles.”
Noem has been a vocal critic of the lockdown measures that have been implemented in nearly every state since the coronavirus pandemic began.
“We weren’t going to focus on the amount of positive cases versus negative cases. We were just going to focus on how many people we had in the hospital because we knew that this virus would come. We also know that we can’t stop it,” she said of South Dakota in July.
Noem is seen as a rising star in the Republican Party and was reportedly contacted about a potential cabinet position after the 2016 election.
