South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem sent words of encouragement to discouraged police officers in Seattle and encouraged officers quitting the force to apply for work in her state.
“To those Seattle officers leaving the force: instead of demonizing you, in South Dakota we stand WITH you,” the Republican governor tweeted Saturday in response to an article about Seattle police officers leaving the force. “Visit https://bhr.sd.gov/lejobs/ to learn about career opportunities in South Dakota, and THANK YOU for your service.”

The article, published by The Blaze with the headline “Seattle mayor who praised CHOP, supported police cuts, is now ‘deeply concerned’ as more than 100 officers have left the force,” reported that 118 police officers have quit their jobs.
Seattle’s mayor, Democrat Jenny Durkan, has expressed support in the past for redirecting police funding to social programs.
South Dakota’s economy has posted strong numbers recently, and unemployment in the state dropped to 4.8% in August.
“NEWS: South Dakota’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.8% in August,” Noem tweeted last month. “Our economy is quickly getting back to normal, and the future is very bright.”
