Saturday Night Live wasn’t silent about abortion — the program made a clown show out of it.
The hosts discussed the Texas abortion heartbeat law during the “Weekend Update” segment, introducing a character named “Goober the clown.” Goober, played by SNL actress Cecily Strong, joined the segment because she “had an abortion when she was just 23.”

“I’m Goober the clown,” she said. “I had an abortion the day before my 23rd birthday.”

She said she joined the segment because she wanted to make the topic of abortion “more palatable,” adding that her abortion was her “personal clown business.”
Goober the clown didn’t give too much context beyond her statement.
