The Congressional leadership is working hard to convince Americans that drilling in the pristine national treasure known as the Coastal Plain of AWNR (pictured above) is a waste of time because the impact on gas prices won’t be seen for decades. At the same time, they insist that we must keep our vision focused on the long-term as we address our energy needs. Can we get clarification on why a solution implemented over decades conflicts with ‘a long-term plan?’ Perhaps if the American people better understood the plans of Democrats, we could avoid tampering with the beauty of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (average July temperature: 41 degrees). And while we’re on the topic of long-term planning, the Teamsters estimate that drilling in ANWR will create 750,000 jobs. I know that the Teamsters aren’t to be trusted — they’re clearly bought and paid for by Big Oil and the Bush White House — but 750,000 good-paying union jobs ought to be appealing to Democrats who insist that the economy is in a shambles.
