The D.C. neighborhood known as NoMa (North of Massachusetts Avenue) continues to add much needed retail with the recent opening of Potbelly Sandwich Shop.
The up-and-coming district has more than 25 major office tenants, including Kaiser Permanente and a handful of government agencies, but had just nine places within walking distance to visit on a lunch break, according to the development map. Potbelly makes the 10th for the thousands of employees in the area.
Slated for opening within the next year are to serve the growing residential population: Constitution Café, CVS, Georgetown Valet, Harris Teeter, TD Bank and Tynan Coffee and Tea.
And here’s a Potbelly fun fact: Alfonce Reese, the general manager at NoMa’s location, worked at the company’s first shop on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago. Since it opened in 2002, Potbelly has grown to more than 200 locations nationwide, including 37 in Washington.
