Henry McMaster suggests Harris visit border over planned trip to South Carolina

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster urged Vice President Kamala Harris to consider making a visit to the southern border rather than her planned visit to the Palmetto State on June 14.

Following the vice president’s trip to Guatemala to address the influx of migrants across the border, she is poised to head out on a national tour to encourage the benefits of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine for residents who have yet to receive the injection.

“We are always happy to welcome visitors, but I believe the Vice President’s valuable time would be better spent at the border trying to fix the mess created by the Biden administration’s failed immigration policies,” McMaster tweeted on Friday.

Many Republicans have criticized Harris’s efforts regarding the migration crisis at the southern border since President Joe Biden tapped her to be in charge of addressing the immigration issue in March.

The vice president fired back at a reporter Thursday evening when she was pressed about her not-yet-scheduled trip to the United States-Mexico border.

“I’m not finished,” Harris said in response to the reporter. “I’ve said I’m going to the border. Also, if we are going to deal with the problems at the border, we have to deal with the problems that cause people to go to the border, to flee to the border.”

Harris is slated to arrive in Greenville, South Carolina, on June 14 and will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, on June 18, according to a readout obtained by the Washington Examiner.

The effort is part of the Biden administration’s “Month of Action” initiative to attempt to vaccinate 70% of U.S. adults by July 4.

“Twelve states have already given at least one shot to 70% of adults and more than 28 states and D.C. have fully vaccinated 50% or more of their adult populations, but millions of Americans still need protection against the virus,” the White House said in a June 2 statement.
