Finnish prime minister apologizes again after explicit picture taken at her residence emerges

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s partying habits have gotten her in trouble again, this time over a photo taken at her own residence in July.

Marin, already facing criticism for leaked videos showing her partying earlier this month, apologized on Tuesday over a new photo being shared on social media. The photo, taken at Marin’s private residence in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, showed two female influencers kissing each other and covering their bare breasts with a “Finland” sign, according to Reuters.

“In my opinion, the picture is not appropriate,” Marin said. “I apologize for it. That kind of a picture should not have been taken, but, otherwise, nothing extraordinary happened at the get-together.”

Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin holds a press conference in Helsinki, Finland, Friday Aug. 19, 2022. Marin apologized on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, for a photo that was taken during a party held at her residence in July.

Marin stated that the photo was taken during a private party with her friends after a music festival and that they had a sauna at the party and “swam and spent time together.”

The leaked photo from Marin’s July party comes after videos filmed on Aug. 6 were released on the internet on Thursday showing Marin dancing and partying with a group of people in a house, with someone in the video heard making a reference to “flour gang,” a Finnish slang term often used to refer to cocaine. In another video filmed on the same evening, Marin, who is married, was seen dancing with male singer Olavi Uusivirta in a nightclub, according to the Daily Mail.

Marin took a drug test on Friday after her critics demanded her to get tested, with the test coming back negative on Monday. The Finnish prime minister insisted during a Friday press conference that she had never taken drugs nor did she see anyone taking drugs at the August party she attended.

In December 2021, Marin was criticized for being seen at a nightclub after reports that she had been in close contact with a government colleague who tested positive for COVID-19. Marin apologized for the incident, claiming she was initially told not to isolate but was later told to avoid social contact through a text message she did not see until later.
